Beverly Hills Fire Department Holds Open House
The annual event features a fire station tour, firefighter demonstrations and a chance to meet Sparky the Fire Dog.
The held its annual open house Saturday in recognition of Fire Service Day. The event gives the public an opportunity to explore the fire station, ride in the fire trucks, try out the city's equipment and view dramatic demonstrations by the firefighters. Kids also get the opportunity to meet Sparky the Fire Dog, the official mascot of the National Fire Protection Association. welcomed guests to the open house, after which a firefighter rappelled down a fire truck's hook and ladder from about six stories in the air. Firefighters also rescued a mock victim from an automobile using the Jaws of Life, and then other firefighters set the car on fire and put it out for the crowd. There were fire station T-shirts, sweatshirts and caps on sale, as well as free information on fire safety.
