Beverly Hills Upgrades Its Emergency Radio Network

Beverly Hills police and fire departments now have a state-of-the-art local and regional radio communications system for use during emergencies or disasters, according to a release from the city.

“In a serious regional disaster, both land line and cell phone communications may be inconsistent or unavailable,” said Beverly Hills Police Chief David Snowden in the statement. “This new system will ensure that we have a reliable way to talk to other agencies during emergencies, which increases security for both citizens and first responders.”

Beverly Hills’ system meets national standards for public safety radio communications and utilizes the latest technology to leverage existing radio frequencies and create additional channels.

Beverly Hills is part of a regional network called the Interagency Communications Interoperability System (ICIS) which also includes Burbank, Culver City, Glendale, Montebello, Pasadena and Pomona.

The cities of Beverly Hills and Pasadena have completed their P25 migrations on the ICIS system. The other ICIS cities are currently in the process of migrating to the P25 standard.
