10-Year-Old Boy Dies in Golf Cart Crash

Modified golf cart carrying two men and three boys overturns in Beverly Park.

Authorities Monday identified a 10-year-old boy who died after suffering a severe head injury when a modified golf cart overturned in a Beverly Park gated community.

The crash was reported at 2:36 p.m. Sunday at 57 Beverly Park, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The modified golf cart was carrying two men and three boys when it overturned, Humphrey said.

Mark Martinez of Van Nuys died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center shortly after the crash, according to the coroner's office.

Martinez had been taken to the hospital in grave condition. The other four occupants did not appear to be injured. The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
