Winifred Wood Willardson Badger
Winifred Wood Willardson Badger, 91 years young. Wini passed away on Sunday, December 29th, at 7:00 am, in Irvine, CA. Wini was an alumnus of Beverly Hills High School, and UCLA, where she was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi sorority. She was raised in Beverly Hills, then a 30 year resident of Encino where she raised her family, and finally lived her remaining 30 years in Irvine (Woodbridge Shores). Click here for the full obit.

Lillian Braeman Bell
December 9, 2013, marked the passing of Lillian Braeman Bell of Beverly Hills, age 94, from cancer. Lillian was a remarkable woman who led an equally remarkable life. She grew up in Minneapolis, studied at Talmud Torah, and obtained a B.S. from the University of Minnesota in medical technology. She met the challenges of World War II by joining the U.S. Navy where she became a lieutenant, j.g. During that time, she met and married her husband, Robert M. Bell. John Saul Biren
John Saul Biren of Beverly Hills, CA died peacefully January 7, 2014. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota on January 10, 1920, John was a first generation American. He was a natural born leader who led through compassion and competency. He was also a gifted storyteller and raconteur. During World War II, he rose to the rank of Captain and was a check flight instructor for B-17s and B-29s. After the war, he settled in Los Angeles, and met his true love, Deena Bieber (an ex-Marine), on a blind date to the Hollywood Bowl and Tail of the Pup. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on March 23, 1947. John and Deena were married for 66 years, creating a wonderful, welcoming home for their children, family and friends. Gabriel Coyoca
Gabe Coyoca or "Boots" as he was known to family and close friends died at the age of 45 on Monday, December 23, 2013, after a nine month long battle with Leukemia. Gabe became a police officer in 1996, working first for the Costa Mesa Police Department, and subsequently the Beverly Hills Police Department, ultimately becoming a detective. Evelyn Kelly Deel
Evelyn "Ev" Kelly Deel, 94, of La Quinta, Calif. passed away December 17, 2013 in La Quinta of heart failure. It was her life-long regret that her parents refused to allow her to go to school 60 miles away. She went to work as a secretary and married Peter Kelly. They later moved to Los Angeles, after relocating to many cities. Ev became a highly regarded legal secretary in Beverly Hills where she was President of the Legal Secretaries Association of Los Angeles. Click here for the full obit.

Barry D. Friedman M.D.
Dr. Barry D. Friedman, a committed and caring physician who practiced psychiatry in Beverly Hills for 41 years, has passed away at age 74. Dr. Friedman imparted a legacy of equal access to quality mental health services through his group practice, the Behavioral Health Medical Group. Click here for the full obit.

Bernard M. Glasser
Bernard Glasser is survived by four children and eight grandchildren. During WWII, he returned to Indiana State Teachers College and earned a teaching degree. He left Indiana and came to California and obtained a job as a schoolteacher at Beverly Hills High School. He then left Beverly Hills and obtained a job in the motion picture industry. Martha Jeannette Gould
Jeannette was born on April 25, 1945, in Van Nuys, California to Vernon and Martha Denny. For 47 years she lived in the San Fernando Valley area of Southern California where she married Jay S. Gould in 1968. She had a successful full-time business career obtaining the position of Assistant Treasurer at Liberty Savings and Loan in Beverly Hills, California, until Jennifer, her first of three children, was born in 1970. Barbara Josephine Backer Heffelfinger
Barbara Josephine Backer Heffelfinger passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013, at her home in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, at the age of 88. She was born on January 21, 1925 in Beverly Hills, California. Barbara attended El Rodeo Grammar School and graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1942. She studied at Stanford University from 1942 to 1945 where she was an Education major. Click here for the full obit.

Marilyn Hersh
Born in New York City on September 17, 1919, Marilyn was the daughter of famed Dance Director Seymour Felix who staged Florenz Ziegfeld's Broadway Musicals and won an Academy Award in 1939 for his work on the movie, "The Great Ziegfeld" which chronicled the life of the great showman. Ziegfeld brought the family to California in 1930 when he began producing films in Hollywood. Barbara Lawrence
Actress Barbara Lawrence, who played Gertie Cummings in the 1955 movie "Oklahoma!", has died. She was 83. Lawrence later became an author, publicist and real estate agent in Beverly Hills. She has a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Click here for the full obit.

Rodney W. Loeb
Born July 29, 1928 in Los Angeles, California to Kalman L. Loeb, Sr. & Freda (Rogers) Loeb, passed away on December 30, 2013 at home in Encino at the age of 85. After his mother passed away at an early age, he attended Lake Elsinore Military Academy with his two brothers, Kalman, Jr. and Roger. Inna B. Magasin-Morris
Inna B. Magasin-Morris passed away peacefully at her home on December 22, 2013. Inna was born on January 15,1923 in Odessa, Russia. In 1940, Inna met Paul Magasin in Los Angeles, and they were married one week later. Paul was an Assistant U.S. Attorney; he later opened his own practice in Beverly Hills. Pia Maria
Pia Maria (nee Sabatelli) after a brief illness, was born to Eternal Life on December 31, 2013, at the age of 80, surrounded by her devoted sons. Barbara Ann (Blakely) Noel Nevins
Barbara Ann Blakely was born January 22, 1938 to Frederick Earl Blakely and Elizabeth (Betty) Harriett Hillwig. She was born and raised in the small town of Olean in Southwestern New York near the Pennsylvania border. After her second year in college, she made a trip to California to visit her Father who was now living in Los Angeles working for the Southern Pacific Railroad. That was the last time she would live in New York. The Los Angeles climate and lifestyle and the glamor of Hollywood and Beverly Hills were too much for Barbara. Harriet Diane Churchill Rapf
Harriet Diane Churchill was born August 5, 1933 at Bismarck, North Dakota, to Neil O. and Helen Churchill. She lived in Bismarck through eighth grade and then moved with her family to Los Angeles where she attended Beverly Hills High School. She died December 8, 2013 of complications from pneumonia. Frederic Rheinstein
Television entrepreneur Frederic Rheinstein, 86, died peacefully at home with his family on December 22, 2013. He anonymously created and funded for the past decade the "L.A. Opera 90012" program - the story of which was told in a 2008 Los Angeles Times article "A Delight at the Opera" which recounts anonymously (at his insistence) the program that each year sponsors an essay contest for high school students to explain why they want to see an opera. George H. Semel M.D.
Passed away December 4th 2013. He was a talented plastic and reconstructive surgeon who helped many defy the aging process through surgical means and with his brand of cosmetics, the Beverly Hills Peal Company. He was an amazing man who could be both serious and ridiculous, who was also incurably altruistic. Click here for the full obit.

Donald J. Shaw
Donald J. Shaw passed away on December 26, 2013 surrounded by family after a six month battle with cancer. He was born in Rochester, New York on November 21, 1934 to Clarence and Ann Mary Shaw. He served as a Sergeant for three years and moved to Hollywood, California after his discharge. He worked for a variety of companies until ultimately reaching his goal of becoming an attorney in 1974. He worked in Beverly Hills followed by Century City for over 25 years until moving to Oceanside where he continued to practice law preparing wills and trusts. Click here for the full obit.

Son of the late Jacob Shuken and Ruth Meyerson Shuken, brother of Victoria Shuken Weisenberg, husband of Colleen Shuken, father of Caryn Shuken and father-in-law of Barry Paul. Sanford Alan Tisherman
Sanford A. Tisherman, M.D. of Moorpark, CA, passed away on January 03, 2014 at the age of 73. Doctor Tisherman was raised in Crescent Heights and Encino. Doctor Tisherman was in private practice as an obstetrician/gynecologist in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles from 1972 until his retirement on December 31, 2004. Georgia Mae Doak Tredennick
Georgia Mae Doak Tredennick , a 33 year Southern California resident passed away on Friday, December 28, 2013 in Torrance, CA. Georgia was a member of Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, and for many years helped manage its endowment. The memorial service will be held at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church on January 18 at 2pm, with a reception to follow. Click here for the full obit.

Sylvia Weisz
Born in 1911 in Los Angeles to Adele and Julius Liffman, Sylvia was the eldest of three daughters. She attended Berendo Jr. High, Hollywood High School and UCLA, where she was a proud member of Alpha Epsilon Phi. For Sylvia, it was Hadassah and what was then the United Jewish Welfare Fund. She served as chair of the Women's Campaign in 1957, knowing how important it was for women's voices to be heard. Together, the Weisz's established a long list of charitable endeavors, including generous support of Cedars-Sinai, Children's Hospital, Temple Israel, UCLA, Vista Del Mar, Jewish Home for the Aging, The Discovery Fund, Jewish Free Loan Association, L.A.County Museum, The Music Center, the new Annenberg Center in Beverly Hills, and more. In recent years, Sylvia made a Premier Philanthropy Gift to the Jewish Federation to establish the Sylvia Weisz Women's Campaign. Click here for the full obit.

Francia Yaquinto
Francia Yaquinto (aka Francia Campos, nee Francille Jill Tustin,) was born June 18, 1951 in Pasadena, Calif., and passed away December 9, 2013 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Fran graduated from Bakersfield High School and moved to San Jose shortly after the birth of her daughter, Samantha, in 1970. Fran and Samantha then lived in Beverly Hills, Calif., where Fran worked for an accounting firm that represented rock bands in the '70s and '80s. She often toured with several of these bands--including Van Halen, Jean Luc-Ponty and The Knack--throughout Europe, Japan, Hawaii and Tahiti, to ensure box office receipts were documented and distributed properly.
