PHOTOS: 9/11 Remembered in Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills commemorated the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks Tuesday evening with a wreath ceremony at the city's .

"Eleven years ago today, America confronted one of its darkest moments," Fire Chief Tim Scranton said to an audience of about 100 people. "Massive fell, black smoke rose up from the Pentagon and jet aircraft wreckage burned on a Pennsylvania field."

Mayor William Brien noted the vulnerability of peace and the threat of terrorism to our nation.

"We are reminded that any day, at any place, our lives could change in an instant," he said.

The mayor then took a moment to thank those who work daily to protect our citizens. 

"We honor the Beverly Hills firefighters and police officers who risk their lives every day to keep us safe in our city," Brien said. "And we also must salute our soldiers—men and women who continue to fight against terrorism on behalf of our freedom, our way of life and the love of our country."
