5 Mistakes to Avoid When Becoming a Model

Getting started on becoming a model is much easier than it appears. On a local level you could get started very quickly as long as you avoid the following mistakes I see time and time again. Here are 5 mistakes to avoid when becoming a model.

    1. You focus on why you cannot become a model. – This is #1 for a reason. Most aspiring models compare themselves to the top models found in magazines and TV and immediately feel they aren’t as good as the top models so they give up too quickly.

Do you really think they just woke up one day and ended up on a cover? Ofcourse not! All models got there start somewhere. It may have been posing in an ad for a local grocery store or handing out flyers at a local 5K event for an area Dentist. Think big but start small.

  1. You aren’t pretty enough. – There is a reason some people are attracted to you and others aren’t. Its called variety and its the ” Spice of Life”.

Some people like blondes and some brunettes, some prefer slender bodies and others prefer a bigger booty. The point is that all physical traits have the potential to sell and therefore your specific look will be appealing to a certain demographic. Someone looking for a model may need the exact look you have so get out there and be proud of your parents design.
  2.

  3. You need to start by spending $500 on photos. – Huge mistake if you are just starting out. You need to practice in front of a mirror or with a friend shooting photos of you before dropping any money on a photoshoot.

So many aspiring models get noticed on websites such as ModelMayhem or One Model Place with just a few shots taken from a friends camera for free. These websites are also free to join.Start off with photos taken by a friend or family member and once you get your posing down then consider the investment required for professional photos.

  5. Once I get some great photos I will get discovered. – Like anything in life you need to take action and get your name out there. It’s called networking and its crucial to your success.

The most common trait I have discovered with successful models is they all hustle. They make phone calls, send emails and put effort into making important connections with the right people.A model who is 20 pounds overweight and has a gap in her teeth but hustles will out model the beauty queen who sits at home texting for hours every day of the week.
  6.

  7. I need to spend $3,000 on a modeling school. – Maybe I should have made this number one as it’s not only a ton of money but offers you no guarantee of stardom.

Most of the models I have spoken with have made more money promoting themselves then they have thinking a modeling school would do it for them.Modeling schools have not had the best reviews lately and no one will look out more for yourself than you.
  8. I can say it until I am blue in the face but being a successful model isn’t the impossible task you likely think it is. Through hard work and dedication it is 100% possible for you to become a model. Start now by just taking one simple step towards become the model you always dreamed you could be.
