City Calling for Artists for Fall artSHOW

More than 40,000 people attended the spring artSHOW in Beverly Hills.

The following is a press release from the City of Beverly Hills.

The on May 19 and 20 brought more than 40,000 art lovers to the City. Artists’ sales were up and patrons enjoyed a beautiful weekend along the expanse of on Santa Monica Boulevard in the heart of Beverly Hills. Lincoln, the Show’s major sponsor, generated nearly $3,000 in donations to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ Healing Arts for Kids program.

“The recent show exceeded all expectations,” says artSHOW coordinator Karen McLean. “By rebranding our show and putting the focus on art—where it belongs—we were able to delight shoppers and browsers from all over California.”

Artists are now encouraged to apply for a juried spot in the upcoming fall Beverly Hills artSHOW, which will be held October 20 and 21, 2012. Applications may be accessed at www.beverlyhills.org/artshowapp or by calling 310-285-6836.

The recent artSHOW featured installation pieces by two local artists as well as a Landscape and the Los Angeles Imagination theme that showcased Los Angeles environs and their stunning, manmade landscapes. In keeping with the trend of increasing the quality and diversity of art at the show, the fall artSHOW will spotlight Art from Animation, along with the usual, stellar selection. The Mayor’s Purchase Award—chosen by Beverly Hills Mayor Willie Brien—went to abstract painting The Big Bang by Cuban-American artist Adolfo Girala. The 36” x 72” piece is slated for display in Beverly Hills’ Conference and Visitors’ Bureau lobby. Over fifty other awards were given to artists.

Sponsors for the May 2012 included Lincoln. Over 288 guests enjoyed test-driving state-of-the-art Lincolns and the company donated $10 to HARK for each driving experience. The Children’s Hospital Los Angeles—along with its all-volunteer HARK program—was the artSHOW’s charitable partner. Media partners included the L.A. Weekly as well as KPCC, along with arts magazines Fabrik, Blue Canvas, and Artweek LA. The artSHOW also has a partnership with the nonprofit Los Angeles Art Association/Gallery 825.

The Beverly Hills artSHOW is produced by the City of Beverly Hills. The fall Beverly Hills artSHOW will take place Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21, 2012. General Show hours are 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. All activities occur at the historic Beverly Gardens and admission to both days is—as always—free.  Beverly Gardens is located along Santa Monica Blvd, from Rodeo Drive to Rexford Drive.
