Los Angeles, Calif. – The KCET Women’s Council will honor two of its own this year at the organization’s annual fundraiser, Star Luncheon, now in its seventh year.

Shirley Baskin Familian has been passionate and deeply involved in KCET since it came on the air in 1964. After being instrumental in establishing the Women’s Council, she continues an active role in KCET’s mission. Her vision and energy have ignited the enthusiasm of volunteers as well as viewers for almost five decades. In 1995, Mrs. Familian, a collage artist and graphic designer, received a National Volunteer of the Year Award for her many years of service and contributions in a leadership position to public television. She has also served on the KCET Board of Directors.

Betty Underwood Deutsch continually widens the circle of supporters for KCET and is a strong advocate for its programs. She has been dedicated to the Women’s Council since 1977, served as an inspiring President, and has graciously opened her home for volunteer projects and special events benefitting KCET. She continues as an active member and role model for the Women’s Council.  Mrs. Deutsch, a former Hollywood starlet from Ohio, came to Los Angeles under contract with Warner Bros. and appeared in numerous films at RKO including Girl from Jones Beach with Ronald Reagan. She married the late aerospace manufacturer, Lester Deutsch in 1953, and has three daughters - Victoria Deutsch Sutherland, Alexis Deutsch-Adler and Gina Deutsch Zakarin.
