Endorsement Season: Cisneros Favors Greuel for Congress

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros endorsed former Los Angeles City Councilwoman and Controller Wendy Greuel today in her race to succeed Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Beverly Hills, who is retiring.

“Wendy Greuel gets the job done,'' said Cisneros, HUD secretary under President Bill Clinton and former mayor of San Antonio. “She proved that both
in Washington, D.C., and in leading HUD's Southern California region (during the 1994 Northridge Earthquake) when I was secretary during the Clinton administration.”

Greuel also has been endorsed by film director-activist Rob Reiner, former L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, California Attorney General Kamala Harris, and Emily's List, which recruits and helps raise money for female Democratic candidates nationwide who support abortion rights.

Also running to replace Waxman are state Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, who is likely to be endorsed by the California Democratic Party, and Republican Elan S. Carr, a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney.

Democrat Barbara Mulvaney, an ex-State Department staffer in Iraq and a former attorney for the United Nations Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, is a first-time candidate.

Independents in the 33rd Congressional District race include author Marianne Williamson and producer Brent Roske of the web series “Chasing the
Hill.''
