Week in Review: Residents Prepare for the I-405 Closure, BHPD Ends Work on High-Profile Case

Much of the week's news involved plans to close the I-405 freeway and ways to deal with the expected traffic. Also, the BHPD said it was closing its investigation into the killing of publicist Ronni Chasen.

The greater Los Angeles region, including Beverly Hills, got ready for “Carmageddon,” while the City Council declined to back a 2012 Rose Bowl float entry. Here are the top five stories from July 10 to July 16.

1. The City Council of funding a smaller, less expensive 2012 Rose Parade float compared with last year's award-winning entry.

2. The Beverly Hills Little League Senior Division All-Stars (ages 15-16) on Thursday. The team advanced to the Section 4 Tournament.

3. The contractor demolishing the Mulholland Bridge and closing 10 miles of the heavily traveled 405 freeway July 15-18  $6,000 for every 10 minutes it exceeded the deadline to reopen the freeway, the director of the told Patch .[The 405 reopened on Sunday at noon, ahead of schedule, earning the contractor a bonus.]

4. 5. The Beverly Hills Police Department announced that its investigation into last November’ killing of publicist Ronni Chasen . The BHPD determined that suspect Harold Smith, who shot himself when police tried to question him, acted alone in the crime.
