Week in Review: Lindsay Lohan's Sentencing, an Organic Food Truck and Beverly Hills on the Cheap

This week also brings coverage of the latest public works and planning commission meetings.

Here's a recap of the stories and other happenings that took place in Beverly Hills from Sunday, July 4 to Saturday, July 10.

SUNDAY

The day started off with our Ace of Hearts Rescue Dog of the Week. We met Nellie, a 5-year-old American Bulldog who loves cuddling with humans.

MONDAY

The work week kicked off when we interviewed Beverly Hills High School lacrosse coach Kate Marks and talked about the upcoming season.

Columnist David De Bacco brought us his weekly Fresh from the Farmers' Market piece with tips on what to purchase for a perfect summer picnic.

The following post was a student spotlight on Alex Kern, who has an exclusive NASA internship this summer.

TUESDAY

Tuesday began with a resident spotlight featuring local mom, author and lawyer Mary Hanlon Stone.

Next came a follow-up story with local businesses about foot traffic and sales over the long weekend.

Then came an update on last week's breaking news about a string of vehicle burglaries in town. We brought you the latest on the suspect, Thomas Gardner.

The day ended with coverage of Lindsay Lohan's trial at the Beverly Hills Courthouse. The former Disney star was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 90 days of in-patient substance abuse rehabilitation.

WEDNESDAY

The mid-week began with a post about things to do in Beverly Hills on the cheap this July.

Then came a piece about the passing of former Beverly Hills Mayor Max Salter.

Last up was a photo slide show of the game between Beverly Hills and North Venice at the District 25 Little League All Star Tournament for ages 11-12.

THURSDAY

The day started with a video about the Netwalkers, a walking/networking group that meets every Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. outside of Kelly's Coffee for a mile-long stroll around town.

After that was a post about the new features at Coldwater Canyon Park, which include an 8.3-million gallon reservoir, all-weather track and 1920s replica bridle path.

A brief about the city's utility contract with Southern California Edison—signed in 1943—rounded up Thursday's coverage.

FRIDAY

Friday began with a recap of this Thursday's Public Works Commission meeting. A new chairman was approved and vendor pay cuts were discussed.

Then came a photo slide show covering Beverly Hills loss to Culver City in the 9- and 10-year-old District 25 Little League All Star Tournament.

The day's last post was a brief on the declaration of July as "Parks and Recreation Month" at Thursday's City Council meeting.

SATURDAY

The weekend began with a video piece on The Gastrobus, an organic food truck that stops on North Maple Drive just south of Beverly Boulevard at lunchtime during the work week.

Next up was a recap of Thursday's Planning Commission meeting. Issues such as residential development and late-night serving hours at bars were discussed.

The week ended with a resident spotlight featuring Jonathan Prince, a Beverly Hills-bred actor, writer and producer.
