Week in Review: Football, Fashion and Face Lifts

Last week kicked off the new school year in Beverly Hills. From the first day of classes to the start of high school sports, Patch was there. Here is a recap of all the local news from Sept. 12-18.

SUNDAY

Coverage of the BHHS football season opener began the week. The Normans took out Santa Barbara 29-7.

Then came our Rescue Dog of the Week post. We met who gets along with kids and other dogs.

MONDAY

The day started with a piece on BHHS girls tennis. We talked with head coach Mike Margolin and his daughter, Megan, the team's senior captain.

After that we posted a video on Fashion's Night Out on Rodeo Drive, which featured clothes, food, celebrities and DJs.

Next came our weekly Fresh From the Farmers' Market column, with tips on an easy recipe for plum-flavored applesauce.

TUESDAY

A post from our teen columnist began the day. Daniel Shofet wrote about starting his senior year at Beverly.

The came a brief about a Beverly Hills businessman who used English-language schools as fronts to get ineligible foreigners—including Russian prostitutes—into the U.S.

Last up was coverage of Monday's first day of school at Beverly Hills High School. Patch talked with Principal Carter Paysinger about the new semester.

WEDNESDAY

Midweek began with our Green Files column. Ellen Lutwak wrote about a local coalition of cyclists campaigning for designated bike lanes in Beverly Hills.

The day's second post was a preview of the BHHS football game against San Marcos in Santa Barbara.

After that we posted a story on the Beverly Hills Police Department and what it's doing to crack down on texting behind the wheel.

THURSDAY

We started the day with coverage of a special City Council meeting. The council declined to expand two-hour free parking at city-owned lots.

Next up was coverage of the latest BHUSD board meeting, where residents spoke out against the board's costly decision to paint over the murals at BHHS and Hawthorne.

The day's final entry was about the expanded weekend holiday hours at the Beverly Hills Public Library.

FRIDAY

A video about a new trend in Beverly Hills plastic surgery—using stem cells for face lifts—was the day's first post.

Then came a piece on the Norman's second football game. The home team routed San Marcos 36-0.

The day ended with coverage of a Planning Commission meeting and hearings on a local car dealership's proposal to build a new building at the site of its current Wilshire Boulevard location.

SATURDAY

The weekend kicked off with our newest feature, The Craving. This week we fished around for the best places in Beverly Hills to enjoy Rainbow Rolls.

After that came a preview on Beverly Hills High School's girls varsity basketball team.

Last up was a brief on Lindsay Lohan. After failing a drug test, which she confirmed via Twitter, the actress may be visiting the Beverly Hills Courthouse again soon.
