Week in Review: Council Candidates Announced, New School Board President Takes Helm and District Safety Under Review

The safety of BHUSD students and staff is being evaluated in the wake of Friday's deadly school shooting in Connecticut.

The list of City Council candidates for the March 5, 2013 election has been released and the Beverly Hills Unified School District is responding to community concerns after a shooter killed students and staff at a Connecticut elementary school. 1. City Hall has released the list of candidates for the March 2013 City Council election. 

2. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced it's offering free rides Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve to provide safe transportation and reduce holiday traffic.

3. The owner of Utta Body Sculpture, Inc. at 9730 Wilshire Blvd. could spend three years in federal prison for from the IRS.

4. Jake Manaster was sworn in as the next BHUSD Board of Education president, with Noah Margo becoming the board vice president.

5. BHUSD administrators and parents are re-evaluating district safety after the deadly shooting spree at a Connecticut elementary school took the lives of students and staff.
