Week in Review: BHUSD and City File Separate Lawsuits Against Metro

Both filed CEQA challenges in an effort to prevent a subway from going under the Beverly Hills High School campus.

The Beverly Hills Unified School District and city of Beverly Hills each filed a California Environmental Quality Act challenge against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to stop a subway from being routed under Beverly Hills High School as part of the Westside Subway Extension.

CEQA requires state and local agencies to identify significant environmental impacts potentially caused by their actions—and to avoid or mitigate those impacts. BHUSD and the city assert that the subway project was approved in violation of the CEQA statute.
