Week in Review: A Cuddly Bulldog, New Beverly Vista Principal and Free Concert on Canon Drive

This week also brings coverage of Beverly Hills Little League teams playing in District 25 all-star tournaments.

Here's a recap of the news and happenings that took place in Beverly Hills from July 11-17.

SUNDAY

The day started off with our Rescue Dog of the Week. We featured who always has a smile on his mug.

Next up was some sports coverage of Beverly Hills in the District 25 All-Star Little League Tournament. The 10 and 11 year olds fell to Culver City in an elimination game.

MONDAY

The workweek kicked off with a profile of Beverly Hills school board member Myra Lurie.

Then came a story about the return of Irene Stern as Beverly Vista principal. The Beverly Hills Board of Education voted 3-1 on Thursday, July 8 to rehire Stern after a four-year retirement from the position.

After that was a post on Vice President Joe Biden's unexpected visit to Beverly Hills.

The day ended with the Beverly Hills Farmers' Market column. This week featured everything from Flavor King and Snow Queen plums to hand-smoked salmon and sturgeon.

TUESDAY

Tuesday began with coverage of Beverly Hill's advancement to the senior division championship at the California District 25 All-Star Tournament.

Next came a post about the first municipal building with solar panels in Beverly Hills. The structure, located at 331 Foothill Rd., is eligible for LEED certification.

Last up was the Beverly Hills Police Department blotter, which featured a suspect who stole plants from outside a Beverly Hills restaurant.

WEDNESDAY

The day started with a Q&A with Steven Ehrlich, the design principal for Culver City-based Ehrlich Architects, which is behind the city's environmentally friendly building located at 331 Foothill Rd.

Next came a column from Patch's teen columnists, Daniel Shofet, who wrote about foregoing summer fun to catch up on required classes at Beverly Hills High School.

Wednesday ended with feature on Beverly Hills resident and volunteer Lisa Kay Schwartz.

THURSDAY

We started the day with a resident spotlight featuring Jodie Robinson, the owner of Anne Michelle located on South Beverly Drive. 

The second post was an interview with BHHS varsity football Coach Don Paysinger, who talked to Patch about the upcoming season.

Lastly we brought you a Q&A with Deputy Director of Transportation Aaron Kunz.

FRIDAY

Friday started with a recap of the Human Relations Committee meeting. Budget issues were covered. There was also a presentation from the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Then came a slideshow of Beverly Hills taking the Senior Little League All-Stars District 25 Title with a win over Culver Marina.

Next came a recap of Beverly Hills Unified School District board member Dr. Brian Goldberg's presentation to the Human Relations Commission.

SATURDAY

The weekend began with a post on SmartSpace LA, a creative arts program with classes for children ages 3-12.

Next we talked with the Beverly Hills real estate broker Christophe Choo in a resident spotlight.

The week ended with happening every Thursday night through the end of August.
