Name: Annette Saleh

How long have you lived in Beverly Hills: I have lived in Beverly Hills for more than 25 years. I was born in Manila and I came to the United States in 1984 to pursue graduate studies.

What is the city's most important issue: In my opinion, the schools are facing a major challenge. We are transitioning from ADA funding to Basic Aid. The school board is continuing to look for permanent administrators. Finding new resources of revenue to fund, maintain and expand excellence in education in our public schools continues to be an enormous endeavor.

Why did you accept the position as president of BHEF: I believe that there is always the right fit for the right time. I am confident that because of my leadership experience as PTA president, as well as my volunteer work in the schools and the city for more than 10 years, I am the right fit for this job. Several members of the community approached and encouraged me by saying that I have the essential combination of experience, skill and vision at this pivotal time.

What is the biggest challenge you face as president: Due to the hard work of all the past officers, board members and volunteers of the foundation, this organization has evolved in to one of the biggest and most important non-profits in Beverly Hills. I want to continue the growth and evolution of this organization. However, with growth comes changes and there is often resistance to change. Balancing our serious goals while keeping the experience lighthearted and fun is definitely a challenge.

Name something you've always wanted to do here but have been too nervous or busy to try:  Plastic surgery.

Where's your favorite place to eat, shop or relax: Anywhere with my husband, son and good friends, but when asked, I always choose the same places:  Urth Caffe, Peninsula, Montage, Porta Via and Fogo de Chao for celebrations.  Shopping would be at Whole Foods, Williams-Sonoma, Neiman's and Barney's. Poolside at The Beverly Hilton is a great place to relax!

Describe Beverly Hills in three words: We are fortunate.
