PHOTOS: Public Comment Period at Metro Board Meeting

Attendees gave impassioned opinions on the Westside Subway Extension.

The Metro Board of Directors Thursday approved plans for the first phase of the Westside Subway Extension, but delayed action on the next two segments so it can consider objections to tunneling under Beverly Hills High School to reach a station on Constellation Boulevard in Century City.

The board voted 11-1-1 to proceed with the expansion of the Purple Line up to La Cienega Boulevard in Beverly Hills and deferred on the next two phases, including where to locate the Century City station, until a public hearing with the city of Beverly Hills is held.

The $5.6 billion Westside Subway Extension will extend the Purple Line from downtown Los Angeles through Beverly Hills, Century City, Westwood and to the Veterans Administration Medical Center.
