Coldwater Canyon Park's Latest Additions Attract Residents

An 8.3-million gallon reservoir, all-weather track and 1920s replica bridle path are just a few of the park's new features.

The fresh designs found in the the "rebirthed" Coldwater Canyon Park breathe new life into one of Beverly Hill's favorite outdoor destinations.

"In a short time we've noticed that the design is drawing more and more people each day," said Anne Zaworski, the city's principal civil engineer.

The 45-acre park has been in disrepair since its reservoir was damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Officially unveiled with a ribbon-cutting ceremony last month, the park now boasts an 8.3-million gallon reservoir, a repaired 1920s replica bridle path, emergency call centers, security lighting and an all-weather track.

"It's a beautiful place for our family to come and exercise," said Beverly Hills resident Michael, who came to test out the new track with his wife, son and daughter. "As you can see, our children are enjoying it…it's a fun place for us to regroup after a day of school and work."

Upon entering the park's entrance, visitors are greeted with the sound of water from a large, circular fountain. From there a stream trickles down to a scenic rock garden. Another stream flows alongside a nearby playground.

"In this new section of the park we wanted to pay homage to the past and the future," Zaworski said. "One part is where the modern design and eco-friendly conservation represent the future, but in an antique design we framed the entrance to the old bridal path that actually took residents of the city all the way to the ocean on horseback."

Coldwater Canyon Park is located at 1100 North Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA 90210. The latest additions are located in the southernmost portion of the park, next to the Firehouse on Coldwater Canyon Drive. The park is open daily from dawn until dusk. Call 310-285-6820 for more information.
