Life of Pie

Teri Hiles takes the top honors at the Beverly Hills Farmers' Market baking contest.

Teri Hiles' blueberry cream pie took the top spot at this year's pie bake contest at the Beverly Hills Farmers' Market on Sunday.

Councilwoman Nancy Krasne announced the winners and presented each with an oversized check. Hiles' pie won not only the "Best Tasting" award but also took home the prize for "Most Beautiful."

After three years of entering the annual pie bake, Teresa Jones took second place with her huckleberry pie.

Third place was a tie between Ruth Pierceand and her strawberry-lemonade pie, and Kira Kosove, who baked a chocolate cheese pie.

As outlined in the official guidelines for the contest, only amateur cooks were permitted to apply. Professional chefs and restaurateurs were welcome to enter the pie-eating portion of the competition. The pie-eating contest attracted a diverse age group, ranging from 18-year-old winner Oliver Berger to 93-year-old Milton Levitt.

The master of ceremonies for the afternoon was  juggler Mike King. Musical entertainment was provided by guitar maestro Jo Jo Alvos.
