Beverly Hills on a Budget

We offer six ways to get outdoors and enjoy the city at little or no cost this month.

In honor of "Parks and Recreation Month," below is a list of free or low-cost activities taking place in Beverly Hills this month:

  • Concerts on Canon at the Beverly Canon Gardens are free and feature classical, jazz, Latin, folk and reggae music. The shows are on Thursdays July 8, 15, 22 and 29. There are two sets per evening: 6:30-7:15 p.m. and 7:45-8:30 p.m. Call 310-285-2408 for more information.
  • Summer Camp 2010 offers more than 18 programs for children and teens ages 4 to 15: musical theater, drama, a volunteer leadership program, science camp, technology classes, rock climbing, soccer, basketball, flag football and more.   • Summer Aquatics is back at the Beverly Hills High School swim gym. There are many reasons to take a dip in the pool: a recreation swim for all ages, adult lap swim, Beverly Hills swim camp, the Thundersharks swim team, water polo and more.   • Recreation classes are offered for all members of the community, from toddlers to seniors. Adults have a wide variety of options including meditation, tai chi, yoga, knitting, quilting, ballroom dancing, belly dancing, tango and salsa. Click here to register for classes.
  • Teas on the Terrace at Greystone Mansion will be catered by Wolfgang Puck on July 10. The event takes place from 4-5:30 p.m. and is for ages 10 and above. Attendees enjoy afternoon tea on the mansion's terrace overlooking a panoramic view of Beverly Hills. Small sandwiches, scones, cakes and other pastries are served on fine china. The cost is $40 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Call 310-285-6830 for information.
  • The Beverly Hills Farmers' Market is held every Sunday (rain or shine) from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on the 9300 block of Civic Center Drive. There are more than 60 farmers and vendors with an array of organic California produce. You can also purchase prepared items, such as a fresh-off-the-griddle crepe.
