An Oscars Party Plan

The Stay at Home FOODIE is having a low-key Oscars party with meat and martinis. What's your Oscars plan?

February has been quite the party month.

Between the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, my father’s birthday and , I’ve been planning and throwing lots of soirees. I’m tired. And I’m burnt out on big bashes for a while.

But Sunday is the ! I NEED to critique the dresses. As a born and raised Beverly Hills gal, I feel it’s my obligation to do so.

This year we’re having just a few people over. The low-key kind. The kind that bring over lamb chops and Jidori chicken breasts. Oh yeah…those are people who I want to come over when I’m hosting something. All I need to do is make a simple topping, a big salad and cocktails.

After all, an Oscars party is not an Oscars party without a special, signature cocktail flowing generously.

This year, I’m making blood orange martinis. A big pitcher full of them. The blood orange is a great seasonal ingredient. It’s gorgeously colored, tart, has a hint of sweetness and is a perfect compliment to vodka.

So that’s the whole party plan: Raw meat being delivered by one of my guests, a quick herb topping (maybe something mint for the lamb and a classic gremolata for the chicken), blood orange martinis (this is counting as the night’s fruit serving, by the way) and a critical eye for the best/worst dressed on the red carpet.

Blood Orange Martini

Ingredients

-vodka
-blood orange juice from freshly squeezed blood oranges
-lime juice
-simple syrup

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup by heating 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Bring to a simmer and reduce until syrup consistency is reached.
  2. Juice the blood oranges.
  3. In a drink shaker, add 1 ounce vodka with 1 ounce blood orange juice.
  4. Add a splash of lime juice.
  5. Add syrup to taste. I like my martinis tart, so I use very little syrup.
  6. Add a scoop of ice.
  7. Shake vigorously.
  8. Serve in a chilled martini glass.
  9. Enjoy!
