Case Denied: Agents & Adjusters; Love-Hate Relationship

While most insurance agents and staff adjusters will not admit to it, there is no love lost between the two of them.  Ask any adjuster if they have ever had an insurance claim that they had to deny, where they were told that the insurance agent had told them there was coverage?  On the other hand insurance agents will tell you that just about everything under the sun is covered on your policy, but they avoid "hypothetical" claims questions.  Remember, the insurance agent wants to sell you an insurance policy and talking about claims during that process is not something they want to do.
Suggestion would be that when you are shopping for insurance coverage, write down several different claim scenarios that you have either been a party to or know someone who that experience.  Have at least five if not more examples for the agent.  Also try very hard to meet with the insurance agent and avoid purchasing insurance over the internet.  Remember this involves your financial stability in the event of loss!  You need to look the agent in the eyes and ask some tough questions.  Take the time upfront to ask the questions instead of trying to back pedal after the loss. No one wants to ever have to file an insurance claim, but the last thing you want is for the insurance company to "deny" your claim, in light of the fact that you recall your agent telling you it would be covered.  It is difficult to deal with most insurance company staff adjusters and you do not need to add more tension with an agent that promised you the moon.
If you find yourself in a conflict with your agent and staff adjuster, consider hiring a Public Adjuster!  Again I was a staff adjuster for over 35 years and was brainwashed into believing that Public Adjuster were actually Public Enemy Number 1.  Not true, so please keep them in mind if you run into problems as you can hire them at any time prior to your settlement.
