Smart Phone Parking App Comes to Beverly Hills

Motorists in Beverly Hills will be able to locate available parking spaces more easily with the incoming smartphone app called Parker by Streetline.

The City of Beverly Hills joins downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood and Venice to take advantage of the latest technology that aims to change the way we find parking.

Already deployed in more than 40 locations in both the U.S. and Europe, Streetline’s patented smart parking platform detects the presence of a car through a network of ultra-low power wireless sensors located in individual parking spaces.

Data from these sensors, or from counting equipment installed in parking garages and lots, is then made available in real time via various cloud-based applications, such as Parker, a mobile app for consumers, and — soon — in-car navigation systems. Earlier in 2013, Streetline introduced ParkerMap, an embeddable widget that allows merchants, universities, cities and parking providers to easily showcase nearby parking options via any website.

“We are pleased to help Beverly Hills tackle one of the most pressing problems facing cities today—parking," said Greg Fiorindo, senior vice president of sales of Americas at Streetline. “Using parking guidance on mobile phones and websites, residents and visitors to Beverly Hills will be able to locate available parking spaces more easily.”

The Beverly Hills project will cover 397 spaces in five garages on Santa Monica Boulevard, right in the heart of downtown. Close to the bustling Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills Drive, the system will help visitors, shoppers and diners worry less about where to park and more about exploring all that downtown Beverly Hills has to offer.

“The city is excited to integrate technology into our parking system,” said Mario Inga, the city's parking services manager. “We believe this project will help both motorists and downtown businesses by making the search for parking more convenient.”

Parker by Streetline will now display real-time parking availability in five of the downtown Beverly Hills’ garages, as well as policy information for parking lots and garages in the surrounding area. Much like the way in-car navigation systems direct you to your destination, the Parker app will display nearby parking and direct you right to an available space.

In addition to an easy-to-use search and intuitive visual map, Parker by Streetline includes a hands-free option that provides an audible cue when available parking is nearby.

The ParkerMap is a free map tool that can be embedded on any website and displays the same information seen in the mobile app, Parker—the real-time availability for the sensored garages as well as the static information for surrounding garages and lots. It serves as an excellent communication tool for merchants to notify customers to their site of the parking environment near their establishment.
