Flywheel Taxi Hailing App Expands to Beverly Hills

The company says it is partnering with Beverly Hills Cab Company to equip its taxis with Flywheel technology.

Flywheel, a mobile application aiming to re-energize the established taxi industry, announced in October the expansion of its service in Los Angeles to include Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Culver City as well as the Westside and the South Bay.

Flywheel allows users to hail, track and pay for a ride from a regulated driver with a tap of their smart phone. Flywheel brings mobile technology to existing fleets, offering a safe, efficient and affordable option to the mass market of taxi users who aren't well-served by ride-sharing and luxury vehicle booking services.

“Flywheel will now be working in cooperation with three of the five taxi owner groups in Los Angeles, which means we will have access to over 1000 taxis in the area,” said Flywheel CEO Steven Humphreys in a statement. “Angelenos can now easily access safe, licensed taxis across L.A. including Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Culver City, becoming the best choice for transportation in the market.”

Flywheel debuted in Los Angeles in August with Bell Cab as their first fleet partner. By the end of October, a few hundred United Independent taxis were equipped with the Flywheel technology needed to respond to ride requests in the Los Angeles area, and Beverly Hills Cab Company rolled out in early November.

“We are partnering with Flywheel to improve the taxi experience and bring more visibility to a service that we have been operating successfully for over 40 years,” said Beverly Hills Cab Company Vice President Joseph Nehrabi, in a statement released to FlyWheel. “We chose Flywheel given the high quality of their driver training and overall management of this game-changing technology.”

All Flywheel rides are offered by licensed taxi or for-hire vehicles, driven by professional drivers in regulated and well-maintained cars. Flywheel ensures riders are paired with expert drivers and is setting an industry standard in quality control. 95% of all drivers have received four or five stars out of a five-star rating system.

Unlike the much disputed legality of unregistered ride-sharing services, Flywheel claims to offer a safe, convenient, cost-effective way to get around Los Angeles.

The Flywheel app is available in the Apple App Store and on Android through Google Play. In addition to Los Angeles, Flywheel currently operates in Seattle and San Francisco with over 3,000 vehicles on the road and growing.
