Doheny Glatt Kosher Meat Market Sued Again

Beverly Hills resident Joshua Fard, who filed a similar lawsuit last week, wants other plaintiffs to step up and make it a class action.

Doheny Glatt Kosher Meat Market on Pico Boulevard is now facing a second lawsuit, filed Friday by Parham Zar in Los Angeles Superior Court.

The suit alleges that the long-time supplier of Kosher food falsely marketed its meats as being kosher, committing fraud, breach of contract, battery and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Video recorded by private investigators that aired on KTLA shows the meat being transported without the rabbinically required supervision of a mashgiach.

Beverly Hills resident Joshua Fard filed a similar lawsuit last Tuesday. Fard is hoping others will join him in a class-action against the business and its owner, Michael Engelman.

The Fard lawsuit alleges that Engelman and his store falsely advertised products as glatt kosher so as to demand higher prices.

Fard also states that thousands of the market's patrons were misled and made to suffer emotional distress after finding out that the products were not authentic.

The market also is being investigated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The Rabbinical Council of California also has pulled Engelman's kosher certification, and was thinking of taking legal action.

Engelman has refused to comment to the media on the matter.
