First Update on Beverly Hills Centennial Planning Is Coming

The City Council's Centennial Anniversary Ad Hoc Committee hears more Monday about how the yearlong slate of events is shaping up.

The committee charged with overseeing the planning for the Beverly Hills Centennial meets Monday night at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall's Municipal Gallery.

According to Megan Roach, the city's Marketing Director, they will hear reports from the various volunteer committees that have been created to put on a yearlong slate of monthly events.

The city officially turns 100 on January 28, 2014.

Roach says the city started planning it a year ago, but the volunteer committees got down to work in January.

This is the first time the chairs of the numerous event committees will give their updates.

Roach says the hope is to have one event per month, beginning with a centennial-themed Rose Parade Float.

A youth art contest, a film festival, as well as  tie-ins with ongoing events like the Rodeo Drive Concours D'Elegance, are also planned.

The City Council's Centennial Anniversary Ad Hoc Committee is chaired by Dick Rosenzweig. Mayor John Mirisch, Vice Mayor Lili Bose and Offer Nissenbaum of the Beverly Hills Conference and Visitors Bureau are also members.

Roach says people interested in volunteering are especially invited to attend and introduce themselves to the event committee chairs.
