Pink Lotus Center Founder Praises Angelina Jolie's Decision

The television trucks lingered well into late afternoon along South Spaulding Drive in Beverly Hills Tuesday, outside the Pink Lotus Breast Center where actress Angelina Jolie went to have a double mastectomy.

The actress announced the news late Monday in a New York Times opinion piece that ia bringing international attention to the issue of breast and related cancers and the role of genetic testing in preventing them.

Earlier that afternoon, center founder Kristi Funk had talked to a gaggle of media outside 120 S. Spaulding Dr. about the series of surgeries she performed on actress Jolie.

"We hope that the awareness she is raising around the world will save countless lives," Funk said.

Funk also published a detailed article outlining Jolie's operation and the genetic testing that preceded it Tuesday on the Pink Lotus website.

According to her published bio, Funk founded the Pink Lotus Breast Center in 2009 with her husband Andy. She had been a head of Patient Education at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center just before that.  Her patients have included singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow.

Funk graduated from University of California at Davis Medical School, also according to her bio, and lives in Pacific Palisades.
