South American harp An internationally acclaimed harpist, composer, and educator, Dr. Ortiz blends traditional music genres of South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and Spain in his compositions, and his recitals include insightful and engaging commentary about the music. A Cuban by birth, he lived for several years in Venezuela, (where he learned to play arpa llanera and arpa paraguaya) and in Colombia, where he began his professional music career and became a medical doctor before establishing his residence in Southern California.
