PHOTOS: Goldsmith Theater 'Topping Off'

Slated for completion in fall 2013, the last steel beam of the 500-seat theater is raised.

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts took a giant step towards completion last week with the "Topping Off" of the 500-seat Goldsmith Theater.

The structure's final steel beam was raised Nov. 8, but not before being signed by the project's board of directors, founding donors and the MATT Construction team.

“For all the donors, board of directors and staff that have been intimately involved on this project throughout the years, these milestones are particularly exciting,” said Lou Moore, Annenberg executive director. “But this day is truly dedicated to the 200 construction workers who are bringing this cultural destination to life.”

Along with the Goldsmith Theater, the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts includes the restoration of the historic Beverly Hills Post Office into a 150-seat studio theater with children's theater classrooms, a cafe and gift shop.

Construction on the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts began in March 2010. The project is slated for completion in fall 2013. The center is located at 470 N. Canon Drive.
