Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Elects New Members to Board of Governors

The Beverly Hills-based organization seeks the advancement of the arts and sciences of motion pictures.

Six new members were elected to the ' Board of Governors, while three past members were chosen to return to the panel, the Academy announced Tuesday.

The new members elected to the board were Dante Spinotti, representing the Academy's cinematographers branch; Lisa Cholodenko for the directors branch; Dick Cook for the executives branch; John Knoll, visual effects; Scott Millan, sound; and Bill Condon, writers.

Director Michael Mann, who served on the board from 2000 to 2006, was elected to return to the board. Former board members Arthur Hamilton for the music branch and Kathleen Kennedy for the producers branch were also elected to return. Hamilton has served on the panel for 33 years, most recently from 2008- 11, while Kennedy served from 1994-97 and 2002-11, according to the Academy.

Re-elected to the board were actor Tom Hanks, Jim Bissell (designers), Rob Epstein (documentary), Mark Goldblatt (film editors), Leonard Engelman (makeup/hairstylists), Rob Friedman (public relations) and Bill Kroyer (short films and feature animation).

The Academy has 15 branches, 14 of which are represented on the board by three governors. The makeup artists/hairstylists branch is represented by one governor.
