Academy Goes Silent! 'The Artist' Wins Best Picture, Director and Actor

Meryl Streep and Christopher Plummer also take home the prize.

The 84th Academy Awards winners have been announced.

The Artist won best picture, director and actor, as well as original score and costume design. 

Martin Scorsese's Hugo won five Academy Awards—for cinematography, art direction, visual effects, sound editing and sound mixing.

Alas, George Clooney didn't win best actor for The Descendants, nor did he win for writing Ides of March.
