Community Corner

Whiz Kid: Nicky Harper

Beverly Hills Patch honors the best and brightest youth in our community.

Name: Nicky Harper
Grade: 12th
School:

Patch: What sports and/or clubs have you participated in during your high school career?
Harper: Throughout my high school career I've been involved with many different activities. In terms of athletics, I played baseball my freshman year, ran track my sophomore, junior and senior years, and ran cross country all four years of school. Regarding clubs, I'm an officer within the BHHS Class of 2011 and a member of the National Honor Society.

Patch: What high school accomplishment are you most proud of?
Harper: I can't give you one because there's a tie. The first accomplishment is being elected student body president my second semester of senior year. The second accomplishment is being a successful track and cross country athlete.

Patch: What advice do you have for incoming freshman on the high school experience?
Harper: I would definitely tell incoming freshmen to get involved. It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you do something. If you don't find something that you enjoy doing at the high school, your experience is not going to be very memorable. Beverly offers so many different options to choose from—from athletics to drama to robotics—that there's something here for everyone. Experiment with different clubs and activities and it won't take long to find something you're passionate about. In most cases, you'll probably find multiple things you want to be involved with. Get involved somehow.

Patch: What are your plans for next year?
Harper: As much as I don't want to leave Beverly, next year I plan to go to college. As of this moment my plans are to attend Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.
