Viewfinder: TreePeople's Park Work Day
From spreading mulch to raking leaves, volunteers help maintain this green space for people from all over the county to enjoy.
Did you know that there are actually two Coldwater Canyon Parks? Beverly Hills’ version is located at 1100 N. Beverly Drive. But another park of the same name is nearby at 12601 Mulholland Drive.
The latter Coldwater Canyon Park is part of the city of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. Since 1977, TreePeople has been the caretaker of this public green space.
Several times a month, TreePeople volunteers—many of whom are Beverly Hills residents—participate in Park Work Days to help maintain the park’s trails, spread mulch, rake leaves, work in the nursery and anything else that needs to be done to keep the park looking great for the nearly 70,000 people who visit the grounds each year.

“It’s a beautiful park and it’s just a wonderful place to be, so I come here to help whenever I can,” said volunteer Berta Finkelstein, 66. “It’s a pleasure to do whatever is needed.”
TreePeople is able to maintain the 45-acre park with just two staff members thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who donate their time throughout the year, according to volunteer manager Keith McAleer.

“Without Park Work Days, we wouldn’t have the lovely trails that tens of thousands of people use and this wouldn’t be a lovely park for people to enjoy,” McAleer said.
Upcoming Park Work Days are from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Nov. 10 and 17. To see TreePeople’s events calendar, click here.
