Police: Obama Visit to 'Greatly' Impact Beverly Hills Traffic Monday Night

President Barack Obama arrived at Los Angeles International Airport Monday for a two-day visit to the Los Angeles area to conduct three fundraisers, two in Beverly Hills, and visit the DreamWorks Animation facility in Glendale to speak about the economy.

Air Force 1 landed at 5:28 p.m., with Obama emerging from the plane at 5:35 p.m. and boarded Marine 1, the presidential helicopter, one minute later for a flight to the Westside.

Beverly Hills police issued an advisory at 5:45 p.m. Monday stating traffic will be greatly impacted in and around the Beverly Hills area until approximately 10 p.m., with the president in the area

The trip is Obama's 16th to the Los Angeles area since taking office. All but three of his trips have included political fundraisers. He has made 10 trips to the area solely for fundraising.

Obama began his day in Seattle, then flew to San Francisco, where he spoke in support of overhauling the nation's immigration laws and conducted a fundraiser.

Both of today's fundraisers in the Beverly Hills area will be on behalf the House Senate Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee between the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee.

The first fundraiser will be a reception at the home of Basketball Hall of Fame member Earvin "Magic" Johnson, with 160 people expected to attend, including actors Samuel L. Jackson and Diane Keaton and Los Angeles Clippers players J.J. Redick and Antawn Jamison. Tickets were priced from $2,500 to $15,000 per person.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, and Johnson are expected to join Obama in speaking.

The second fundraiser will be a dinner at the home of Saban Capital Group Chairman Haim Saban, where Obama, Reid and Pelosi will also speak. Approximately 120 people are expected to attend, including Mayor Eric Garcetti and Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks.

Tickets were priced at $16,200 each.

Ryan Mahoney, a deputy press secretary of the Republican National Committee, called the trip "just another distraction from (Obama's) fundamentally flawed and unpopular health care law."

"While President Obama raises millions of dollars for Democrat campaign committees, millions of Americans are losing the health care coverage he promised they could keep," Mahoney said.

There was no response to attempts to contact the White House.

On Tuesday, Obama is scheduled to conduct a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee at the Hancock Park home of Marta Kauffman, a co- creator of the 1994-2004 NBC comedy "Friends," politicalpartytime.org reported.

Obama is also scheduled Tuesday to speak at DreamWorks Animation, which is headed by Jeffrey Katzenberg, a longtime Obama supporter. Obama, during his most recent trip to Southern California, had a private dinner with Katzenberg in August.
