New Directions for Veterans Hosts 5th Annual Dinner Gala

The West L.A.-based non-profit hosts "Honoring our Heroes" at The Beverly Hilton to raise funds to help programs for veterans and ending veteran homelessness.

Honoring our Heroes, the fifth annual Veterans Day dinner gala, was hosted by New Directions for Veterans on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills to honor veterans and those who support them.

Proceeds from the gala will be used to support the work of New Directions in preventing and ending veteran homelessness. All gifts to New Directions, based in West Los Angeles, help provide the means for veterans to rebuild their lives.

Featured honorees included Albert Sweet, co-chairman and founder of Occidental Entertainment Holdings, Inc.; Wells Fargo, accepted by Mr. Byron K. Reed, senior vice president of Los Angeles Metro/Orange County Region Community Relations Director; and the New Directions Veterans Choir, whose members carry a message of hope to veterans that a hero should never be afraid to ask for help.

The master of ceremonies was be Joe Mantegna, celebrated actor and long-time military supporter.

New Directions, a non-profit, provides services in three distinct areas, all designed to help end veteran homelessness in Los Angeles.

Through the agency’s original program, homeless veterans – men and women alike - are offered transitional housing and comprehensive services to prepare them for successful reintegration in to the community.

A newer program in housing stability/rapid rehousing helps veteran families quickly find safe and affordable housing, thereby preventing homelessness. And newest to the agency’s portfolio is the development and operation of permanent supportive housing for homeless and disabled veterans.

New Directions for Veterans aims to assist each veteran in achieving employment, permanent housing and reunification with family. Under the leadership of President and CEO Gregory C. Scott, New Directions for Veterans is headed into its third decade of service with strengthened services geared to include and meet the needs of two growing veteran populations – women veterans, and all veterans who have served in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.
