Nearly 2,000 Youths Participate in City Summer Reading Program

More than 1,000 Beverly Hills youths read six books or more during the summer.

Mayor John Mirisch and the Beverly Hills City Council congratulated dozens of children in grades kindergarten through third grade on Sept. 24 for completing the 2013 summer reading program with the public library

There were approximately 1,857 youths who participated and approximately 1,034 who ready six books or more, according to Marilyn Taniguchi, library services manager.

"This program is one of the most important services we offer in the city," said Mayor Mirisch. "It helps create a love of books that will stay with them for the rest of their lives."
