Cathy Diane Tomlin Stars In A Comedy Classic "Light Up The Sky" Opening At Theatre 40 OF Beverly Hills On Thursday, November 21 Through December 22, 2013

After receiving extraordinary accolades for her role as “Isabelle Riley” in RED WING alongside Frances Fisher, Bill Paxton and Luke Perry, Cathy Diane Tomlin (“Grey’s Anatomy”) is gearing up for a return to her theatrical roots.  This time, Tomlin co-stars in the comedic theatre classic LIGHT UP THE SKY, opening this Thursday, November 21 and will run through December 22 at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills.

LIGHT UP THE SKY, written in 1948 by Tony® and Pulitzer winner Moss Hart, provides a rare look into the world of the actor, director, producer, and playwright as they encounter what they believe to be “a critical disaster.” Based on such real-life Broadway celebrities as actress Gertrude Lawrence, producer Billy Rose, and director Guthrie McClintic, the characters playwright Moss Hart created still make audiences laugh over 60 years later. Tomlin plays the role of “Nan Lowell”, the ghost-writer of Miss Irene Livingston’s tell-all autobiography.

As the very definition of a “backstage comedy musical,” director David McClendon and producer David Hunt Stafford honor playwright Moss Hart’s timeless humor, and the work that went into this wonderful evening of theatre. McClendon directs a cast that includes Cathy Diane Tomlin, Bryan Bertone, John Combs, Nick Denning, Stephanie Erb, Arthur Hanket, William Murphy, Flora Plumb, Elain Rinehart, David Hunt Stafford, Meredith Thomas and Martin Thompson.

David McClendon directed “Laura” last season at Theatre 40. He was previously artistic director of Theatre Aspen and associate artistic director at the Old Globe and directed many plays at those theatres and at major theatres throughout the country.
