USPS Proposing Relocation of North Maple Drive Post Office

The U.S. Postal Service announced Wednesday that it may sell the Beverly Hills Post Office building at 325 N. Maple Drive and lease a smaller facility nearby.

According to a statement released by the USPS, the new location would be as close as possible to the existing North Maple Drive post office. If the move is approved, P.O. Box numbers would remain the same.

A public meeting on the possible move is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the Salter Family Theatre at . The public is invited and comments are welcome.

The proposal to move the North Maple Drive post office is part of the realignment of USPS infrastructure in response to a 20-percent drop in total mail volume over the past three years.

"USPS does not receive tax dollars for its operations or facilities, but covers costs solely through the revenue received from the sale of its products and services," USPS said in a statement. "The Postal Service is in a very serious financial situation and is facing insolvency. Every opportunity to reduce expenses and generate revenue is being considered in order to maintain universal service to customers."
