'Octomom's' Beverly Hills Fertility Doctor May Keep License

A judge recommends probation for Dr. Michael Kamrava, who implanted embryos into Nadya Suleman.

A judge has recommended that the Beverly Hills fertility doctor who treated “Octomom” Nadya Suleman be placed on five years' probation by the state medical board, according to wire reports.

Dr. Michael Kamrava is accused of gross negligence and incompetence in his treatment of Suleman and two other patients. The Medical Board of California had moved to revoke his medical license.

Administrative Law Judge Daniel Juarez determined in a 46-page recommendation to the board that revoking the fertility specialist's license would be too severe a punishment.

“The public would be adequately protected by a period of probation that includes, among other things, terms and conditions requiring [Kamrava] to complete an ethics course,” Juarez wrote. “It does not appear likely that [Kamrava] will repeat acts like transferring an excessive number of embryos...especially given the national publicity surrounding [the Suleman] case.”

Under the recommendation, Kamrava could still lose his license if he violates the probation terms suggested by Juarez. The state medical board is expected to review the judge’s recommendation Thursday.

Kamrava treated Suleman beginning in 1997, leading to the birth of all 14 of her children, including her famed octuplets, who were born Jan. 26, 2009.
