Update: City of...What?
A sign outside City Hall reads "City of Los Angeles" for a film shoot.
It's confirmed: the sign outside City Hall with "City of Los Angeles" written on it is a film prop.
"They're just doing a one-day shoot," Beverly Hills spokeswoman Therese Kosterman told Patch.
An observant Patch reader had sent in photos Wednesday morning showing what appeared to be a big mistake on the new City Hall sign.
But by Wednesday afternoon, Planning Commissioner Brian Rosenstein wrote in a Patch comment that he had seen filming notices near the sign and that it may be a prop. He was correct.
Did you notice the sign along Santa Monica Boulevard?

When I parked on Crescent yesterday in front of City Hall, there were signs warning that there would be filming going on there tomorrow. I would venture to guess that the sign is being used as a prop for whatever is being filmed there tomorrow.

I would venture to guess that you are totally right, Mr. Rosenstein!

Indeed the picture is a prop for an upcoming Tom Cruise movie shoot. I guess we should take pride in the fact that the movie producers felt our majestic and historic City Hall is the most beautiful around!

A Tom Cruise movie? That's big-time filming right there! No doubt it's a well-funded prop. Maybe the crew can replace "Los Angeles" with "Beverly Hills?" Would be such a waste to just tear it down!

Interesting. If you peruse Cruise's current IMDB page, the only movie that this makes sense for is ROCK OF AGES. Could be a one-day reshoot, since I believe production on that one had been already completed.
