City Meter Hours Being Extended Starting Sept. 19

Residents and visitors will have to feed Beverly Hills' parking meters until 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

The days of free evening and Sunday parking will soon be over in Beverly Hills. Starting Monday, Sept. 19 the city is extending parking meter operations on weekdays and Saturdays, and adding meter hours on Sundays.

Meters in the business triangle between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards, and on South Beverly Drive, will be in operation from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. The rate of $2 an hour will not change. Meters are currently in effect from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and there are no meter hours on Sundays.

The change in meter timing was prompted by neighboring areas that have already extended meter hours. In nearby West Hollywood, many meters run Mondays through Saturdays until 10 p.m., and some as late as 2 a.m., at a rate of $1 an hour.

The City Council approved the change sometime within the last year, but it has yet to be announced on the city’s website.

The Beverly Hills began publicizing the change this week so its members could inform customers and employees. Areas not affected, according to the Chamber’s notice, include the meter lots behind Little Santa Monica, Robertson and La Cienega boulevards, Santa Monica Boulevard west of Wilshire Boulevard, and streets adjacent to public parks and religious institutions. The city may make changes to meter hours on Robertson and La Cienega boulevards in the future.

In order to accommodate evening employee parking in the business triangle, the city will be lowering rates in its parking structure at 221 North Crescent Drive from the current $5 flat fee after 6 p.m. to a $2 fee after 6 p.m, the Chamber said.

Fines for expired meters start at $58. Residents with questions can contact Parking Director Chad Lynn at clynn@beverlyhills.org.
